Thanks Nolimit! This is the kind of input we want to hear right now as we pursue funding from potential sponsors. We're not making any decisions just yet and there are interesting things happening which should satisfy everyone's needs.

For small LAN groups around the US, things have gotten harder because of the poor decisions of leaders in groups like WSVG and CPL. Sponsors are more reluctant to spend their marketing dollars, particularly on smaller organizations.

Keep this in mind as a big way to help both us and yourself out: Warfactory's promise is that it will deliver a well-run competitive event and give as much prize money as we can afford. To reach that goal we need the help of gamers in the entire region via signups and referrals.

If you have friends with businesses in the area or even in surrounding major cities we will work with any appropriate business to give them publicity and involvement for their marketing dollars. We are close friends with the guys at GotFrag and have worked for a number of the "big guys" in the industry, so we offer a lot of bang for the buck. Plus, we've been doing this for about 10 years!

Keep the stream going ... I'd really like to see some more suggestions about Quake, CS, COD4, or other games we might be missing.

Thanks,

Dave

I've been playing CS for a really long time and I think the thing that the midwest is lacking is a really good tournament for CS 1.6.. I know theres a lot of source fans you guys have coming to these lans but I really believe with the reputation that Warfactory has (which is nothing below incredible) if you make it worth the time you could get a great showing of all the top teams from central and east and if the pot is high enough possibly the west, might be a little wishful though for them.

I came to your guys lan last year, braving the ice storm that had half of Missouri's roads shut down and still had a great time. I went to Lacledes in March and lets just say that they really killed it for me driving from KC to St. Louis after the ongoing problem of not being payed our prize winnings.

Just to sum it up, hold a well run CS 1.6 tournament like you did last year and you'll get a very good amount of teams to show up there.

Hey Everyone,

While we grind sponsors and begin to flesh out this upcoming event, we want you to know that it's important to hear your thoughts. Previous Warfactory events have been influenced by community interest, so we want to hear what you have to say!

Please make your suggestions known here. We have some interesting things in the works which may improve this event in a big way too ...

Also, of course, Counter-Strike: Source is preferred. I've attended past warfactory events and enjoyed them very much.

I would be willing to help out at the LAN. I am open all day Friday till Monday afternoon. I would love to see a TF2 fun pickup tournament (or at least a server to play on) however I am not sure how we would go about setting it up but that game sure is fun.

Thanks for the feedback Phil. Ideally, we try to pay out on the final day of the event depending on sponsorships and taxes. Some sponsors are slow, but three months is an issue. The Army usually takes only about 4 weeks, provided that you correctly submit your paperwork.

The facility is locked, and it's close to some local hotels. I'm working on hotel deals this week.

Keep the suggestions coming and spread the word.

Counter strike Source of course... make it better than laclades. that wont be hard considering they still havent sent out the checks for the winners... If your planning a 2 day event maybe make the location a banquet hall of a hotel and have a room discount so u can have ppl from out of town come in. Make the prize pots big and more teams will come.

make it one big event if you can imploying all sorts of console and computer games, i know that out in suburbs like St.Charles and St.Peters there is a really strong console following add games like Gears of War and Console Version of COD4 and im sure you will have a decent lan event and make it an annual thing as well if you can.

Hey Jackcarver ...

No, they're not anything like that; they're a very large gaming organization. You can also find Warfactory, LLC's registration on the Missouri Secretary of State's website.

Good news for LANners is that tomorrow I meet with another possible venue. If all goes well we'll be back to doing quality LAN events soon enough (and hopefully on a regular basis).

Most businesses don't release information until they are sure that it is correct. I am sure the reason iis that the specifics of the events have yet to be worked out so they won't release more information until they are confident that they can follow through with their promises. And yes Warfactory is a business.

Actually, Warfactory is doing better than ever. We have several things going on involving running LAN events for some big names in the industry but we are still under obligation to keep our involvement quiet out of professional courtesy. This isn't really a secret though, but I can't discuss it openly in our forums.

In some ways I agree, but then again I've seen the excitement involved when even a few thousand dollars are thrown at a tournament. LANs are in a bad situation right now, a Catch-22 because sponsorship has been withdrawn after the failures of CPL and WSVG and people are still wanting to win big.

Doing "for fun" LANs are great, but we have done them at least once a year and found the turnout pretty low. We wouldn't care if event halls were free, but unfortunately they're not.

Maybe. I don't have a lot of sympathy though for the jaded people who actually thought they could make a living just playing games. It's nice while it lasts, but as it's been shown, it's kind of a fair weather deal. I don't need a promise of big prizes to take a weekend and pack up my rig, drive downtown and have fun for a weekend, and I still hope there's more people like that who live close enough around to feel the same way. Hell I drove up from Rolla for a tournament when I knew I wasn't going to be competitive in anything. LAN parties used to just be about playing games, not big payouts. Maybe it's time for sort of a grass roots movement in the LAN party arena. Smaller prizes, more obscure games, I dunno. Just a thought.

any chance we could get a small group and just meet up at some dudes place and game for a weekend? if i cleaned up my basement i could fit probly 10 -14 tables that are 3 ft by 10 or 15 ft. the only problem would be transportation and my power bill. but i figured that 5 bucks perperson should be fine. some thing like that. i just want to see the expression on the dudes, or dudettes, face across the room when i frag 'em after a heated battle. its cool to know that i can win some thing just by beeing there, even cooler knowing that if i am good enough i can win some sweet gear when i dominate a tourny. but again all i care about is seeing the enemy's expression!

The Bandwidth Exchange was a great deal ... unfortunately deals like that don't stick around forever. The new owners decided that a weekend was was worth $15k for space that they weren't using anyway. So, they get zero ....

If you haven't noticed, most LANs in the region are really struggling. In my opinion mainly because organizations like the WSVG and the CPL have severely damaged the competitive gaming market. Without care, others are going to damage it too. Also, sponsors are a lot less supportive these days; the economic downturn is very real and that reflects on the LAN community. It's gotten hard ... we can throw events for smaller prizes, but gamers really want to win cash to make travel worth the trouble.

Well it's been interesting ... the bandwidth exchange changed owners and now wants upwards of $15,000 for rental. I don't know about you, but going from cheap to $15k is completely stupid.

Things are still in the works so don't give up hope!

So what's the word on a LAN at the old Bandwidth Exchange building, or anything along those lines? Any plans yet?

Well CS and CSS have proven to be extremely popular and that is generally what brings people in to tournaments ;)

BYOC - Tower, monitor, mouse, keyboard, mousepad, headphones/headset (no speakers)

MAYBE bring Ethernet cable (depends on the setup...all details would be posted prior to an event so don't worry about it).

Oh and bring yourself too :)
